I believed that Eastern animation could offer the pinnacle of direction, story-telling, and pure Sakuga art. I believed that it was misunderstood like A Silent Voice. Under-appreciated like Grave of the Fireflies.
Then I watched Ex-Arm and now I don’t know what to think at all.

With so many anime that, instead of pandering to trendy stuff, were more like passion projects, 2021 made me feel "Anime is getting good again". Oddtaxi, Heion Sedai no Idaten-tachi, Sonny Boy and Heike Monogatari made the year much more enjoyable.
